Foster options
- Short-Term Foster: Short-term foster needs are for animals who are not yet ready for adoption and seek a safe and caring place while getting ready. Such animals might be baby kittens, or animals currently undergoing treatment that can easily be given at home. For example, a cat might require daily medication for 1 month, which results in cage-housing for an entire month. In your home, this cat would not need to be caged and would have a good life while the treatment is ongoing.
- Long-Term Foster: Long-term foster needs are for animals who struggle in the shelter setting and need some help from you. This might be an animal that is very shy and scared to meet potential adopters. In your home, this animal can learn to trust people and you would help introduce it to potential adopters. Similarly, some animals simply do not “show well” during adoptions. This might be because they are extremely stressed around other animals and therefore do not show their real loving personality. At your home, such an animal can de-stress and you can help introduce it to adopters, while the animal is relaxed and happy.
- Foster-to-Adopt: Many people struggle to decide which animal is the right match. You do not need to decide right away which animal is your forever love. In fact, most animals don’t show their real personality in a shelter setting. Choose an animal – perhaps even one that does not “show well” in the shelter – and foster it for 2 weeks. You will get to know its real personality and likely, both of you will fall in love with each other. Then, after 2 weeks, you can decide if you choose the right match. If so, we will arrange the adoption documents with you. If not, no problem! The first try is not always successful. Return the animal to us and see if you find a different match.
